January 1, 2026 - The Cambridge Woman’s Club is proud to announce they were recently awarded a grant from the Heart of Chesapeake Country Heritage Area. The grant, titled "MD 250 Fellows Program Grant", will support a paid student Fellow. This person will contribute to original historical research, community engagement, and interpretive planning for Threads of Strength. “This grant support is critical to helping us complete important research related to the role and relevance of historic women in our community," shared Ruth Clendaniel, President of CWC. January 1, 2026 - The Cambridge Woman’s Club is proud to announce it has been awarded a grant from the Bartus Trew Providence Preservation Fund to support an initiative focused on developing an interpretive plan for Sycamore Cottage.
This grant will enable the Club to work with a qualified heritage consultant to create an interpretative framework. This interpretive plan will allow the club to share the Cottage’s full story with the public. The proposed plan will highlight its colonial roots, the architectural integrity of the cottage, and the women who preserved it. It will also support the interpretive tours of the property.
With the support of this grant, the club will lay the groundwork for future exhibits, signage, and inclusive storytelling - connecting our community to the rich past that Sycamore Cottage represents. “We’re grateful for this funding,” said Ruth Clendaniel, President of CWC. “With this funding, we can continue to share the history and preservation of Sycamore Cottage for future generations." The fund is managed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

This project is titled, “Walking the Extra Block to Sycamore Cottage”.
This grant will enable The Cambridge Woman’s Club to compile and present research findings in various formats to engage and inform the community of the site’s significance. Over the coming year, the program will provide programs and tours highlighting the history of Sycamore Cottage.

The grant, titled “Threads of Strength: Bringing Dorchester County Women to Life, 1900-1944” proposes a living-history initiative that honors the heritage of local women through immersive, historically accurate costuming and consultant-led research.
This grant will enable club to compile and present the local lives of the women of Dorchester County and their historical significance. “This grant support is very important in helping us further our historical research." said Ruth Clendaniel, President of the club.

March 2, 2025 - The Cambridge Woman's Club was recently awarded a grant from the Maryland Humanities organization. The funding of this grant was provided through the Marilyn Hatza Memorial Strengthening the Humanities Investment in Nonprofits for Equity (SHINE) Programs.
Recipients of this award are nonprofit organizations in Maryland whose mission is to promote the arts and humanities through their programming and activities. The Cambridge Woman's Club is proud of their accomplishments in this area and continues to focus on its mission. "The additional money and support from the SHINE Grant will enable the Cambridge Woman's Club to provide richer programs that celebrate the history and cultures of Cambridge and Dorchester County,” according to club President, Ruth Clendaniel.
The Cambridge Woman’s Club is dedicated to enriching our community through the celebration and support of arts, community affairs, and literacy. We strive to create impactful community projects and engage in fundraising to support charitable endeavors including maintaining the preservation of Sycamore Cottage, listed on the National Register of Historical places; and supporting our local library.
